Wedding Music Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Central Queensland

Some of you may recognise Shemah Zion from our Directory or from events around the Central Queensland Region and tonight we have a feature video from one of his recent performances to share with you! If you’re looking for a laid-back, acoustic style musician for your upcoming wedding or engagement party we think he’s one of the best in the region and would be a fabulous choice! Thanks to Jonathan and friends for putting the video together.

P.S Just after this performance Shemah proposed to his beautiful girlfriend Madeline! (She said yes!)

We met at work and dated for 6 years before we got engaged. Our proposal was amazing! We went on a holiday to Koh Samui, Thailand with my brother and his girlfriend – on our last night Adam had arranged for us girls to have a beauty afternoon of manicures and pedicures. When we arrived back to the room, there was an Amazing Race envelope with a treasure map and clues for me to find the treasure. It took me down to the beach where I had to dig for a treasure chest. This gave me the next clue, I had to make my way back to the hotel room where another envelope awaited me. I opened it to find a room key to one of the over-water bungalows at the resort. I opened the door to find the room full of rose petals and candles, champagne and canapés. Adam took my hand and I followed the trail of rose petals out to the balcony and found another little treasure chest. I opened the treasure chest and found a little toy elephant with an engagement ring on his trunk. Adam bent down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.

Tell us about your wedding day!
Our family and friends gathered and witnessed our ceremony. We were married by Father Bill and had members of our family perform some readings that were really meaningful to us. We had written our own vows which were a surprise to each other so it was really nice to hear those heartfelt promises. We sealed our marriage with a kiss and it was time to party. As we walked into the reception our guests erupted with a massive welcome to the party. The food and wine was amazing and everyone had a great time together. We had a cocktail style wedding so it gave everyone the opportunity to comfortably move around and chat. There were tears of love and lots of laughter during the speeches. Our guests gathered on the lawn and watched the lantern ceremony, as we watched the lantern float away everyone was looking up at the sky and then the spectacular fireworks began. The fireworks were played to a soundtrack designed specifically for the firework display. We had a choreographed first dance which was a surprise for our guests which we had practiced for months. All our guests had a great time on the dance floor as they danced the night away.

It was lace with swarovski crystals. I loved the open back (my favourite part) and the neck line. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the one. I had noticed this dress in a magazine 12 months beforehand and loved it. I located the store that had it and it was the very first dress I tried.

Why did you decide to have your wedding in Central Queensland and why are you glad you did?
We found Villa Botanica on the internet and the pictures we saw and loved became a reality when we made our first visit to Villa and instantly knew this was the place for us. The venue was so different to anything we had seen before. We fell in love with its rainforest, cactarium and beautiful sea deck which overlooked the Coral Sea. The interior décor is inspired by Balinese and Indian architecture. You have exclusive use of the venue which is something we really liked. You also have use of their bridal villa for the night and day of the wedding – we felt like we were in our own private paradise. Having our wedding at Villa Botanica offered us the wedding we had dreamed of. We wanted something unique and intimate and Villa Botanica is exactly that.
What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in planning your wedding in Central Queensland?
The planning of my wedding was really organised and stress free. Villa Botanica provided me with a Wedding Planner and access to a personalised web planner to assist me in the planning of our wedding. My planner, Jane was professional and very knowledgable so made the planning process so easy and enjoyable. Being in a different state was no problem they took care of absolutely everything and had such a good relationship with the vendors in QLD so I didn’t stress about being in a different state. They took care of absoltuely everything on the day, I nor anyone in my bridal party or guests had to lift a finger on the day we could just sit back, relax and enjoy the day which was fantastic.

$30,000 +
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line?
We did write our own vows it was nice to make promises to each other from our hearts.
What readings, if any, did you have at your ceremony?
“The Future” By Emma Salmon. I love this reading, to me it’s how I envision our life together, filled with love and happiness.
What advice do you have for couples currently planning a wedding?
At one point during the night my husband took my hand and we walked to a quiet area where we reflected on the day and talked about our favourites parts of the day. I would recommend every couple spend a few minutes of the night just the two of you to reconnect and take in the wonderful day you are having.

Don’t let the planning stage stress you, otherwise you won’t enjoy the process. This is the best time of your life, you need to enjoy and look forward to the day as it is the start of your lives together.

We had a cannoli cake. We didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, we love cannoli and we thought it would be a nice sentiment to involve Adam’s Italian background.

Zach & Demi

It’s always a delight to see a wedding photographed by the talented Khara of House of Lucie Creative and today’s darling Mackay ceremony is no exception! We’re sure you will love this sweet matrimony between Zach & Demi (featuring their own little wolf pack!).

Tell us about finding your wedding dress.
I chose my wedding dress from Vanessa at When Freddie Met Lilly, and it was exactly what I was looking for. I was after something simple that fell from the waist with cap sleeves and lace. Vanessa helped me modify one of her dresses to get exactly what I wanted, and it turned out perfect. It was so comfortable as well.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in planning your wedding in Central Queensland?
Sticking to the budget was very hard, you definitely need to sit down and think about what suppliers you want and how much it’s going to cost in the early stages of planning.

There were also a couple of suppliers that we had originally booked that were extremely hard to contact. Make sure that you are 110% happy and have done your research into the supplier you have chosen. Communication is key, make sure that they are returning your phone calls/emails in a timely manner and you should always keep in contact with them all the way up to your wedding day.

Our favourite detail of the wedding was:
We have two Siberian Huskies which are basically our children, so we definitely wanted to have them as part of our wedding day. They joined us at our garden ceremony at Queens Park. They were the first to walk down the aisle as little flower girl and page boy. It was also very special to have all of our family and close friends there to help us celebrate.

How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding?
Around 70 family members and close friends attended the reception and there were about 15 extra who attended the ceremony.

If you feel comfortable sharing what budget did your wedding fall into:
Our wedding fell between $10,000 – $15,000

Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line?
Yes, we both wrote our own vows. We tried to make them fun and really personalised to reflect what our lives are about. This was part of Zach’s vows, which he came up with all by himself!

I will help you protect and raise our wolf pack,
And even help fill in the holes they dig.
For richer, for poorer, for even poorer when you let me buy my F6,
In Hockey injury or in health,
To love and to cherish from this day forward until full time

What advice do you have for couples currently planning a wedding?
Decide on what you want and don’t change your mind. Make sure you are confident in your decisions and make sure your suppliers are clear on what you want.

Any suppliers who you feel deserve a special mention:
Photographer House of Lucie – Khara Deurhof
Flowers Mackay Wedding Flowers – Ebony Svaikauskas
Dresses When Freddie Met Lilly – Vanessa Hoe

The three suppliers above were hands down the most amazing people I dealt with during the whole wedding planning process. They were so easy to deal with, extremely helpful and they had a passion for what they did, which goes a long way especially when you don’t know what you are doing.
